Planetos Released

by SeuJogo 30. November 2010 23:00

Today I released my new game “Planetos”. The Universe is out of control and you need to kill the attacking planets, before they kill you. The game is played with the mouse.

Tech details. The in-game music is a seamless loop, played with VorbisPlayer, with the music converted to a bitrate of 16000. In total, there were four particle system “types” created, two for explosions (ship, enemy), one for the star-screen and one for the comet tail. All Objects part of the game are recycled after they’ve been reused, to avoid constructor calls and garbage collection – all to improve performance. I think it took me about 4 weeks to develop, in my spare time.

Also a new development feature I tried. Usually I create a level editor in Silverlight, which saves the data to a webservice. Using Visual Studio’s T4 technology, I am now baking the levels back into the Silverlight application again. So the levels are now hardcoded in the game, using a T4 code generator, which saves a webservice call.
